Herbalist’s Lives on the Line after Bulletproof Charm Fails to Protect Him from His Own Gun
A distressing incident occurred on November 23 in the Kuchibuyi village, Abuja, when a local herbalist, Ismail Usman, sustained severe injuries while testing a self-made bulletproof charm.
According to reports, Usman decided to put his charm to the test by fortifying himself and picking up a locally fabricated gun. However, things took a tragic turn when the charm failed to work as expected, leaving him critically injured.
An urgent call was made to the police by a nearby resident, prompting officers from the Byazhin Division to rush to the scene. Usman was then rushed to Kubwa General Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, and he was later transferred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for further treatment.
The FCT police command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident and stated that Usman would be facing charges for unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide, which violates Section 231 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.
In a statement, Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Olatunji Disu, strongly condemned the incident, emphasizing the risks associated with illegal firearms and the importance of prioritizing public safety.
Investigations are ongoing, with the police having recovered the homemade gun and various charms used in Usman’s experiment during the search of his home. The deadly consequences of his actions serve as a stark reminder of the dangers of taking the law into one’s own hands.
