Edo State Police Command: I Was Wrongly Dismissed for Exposing Coworker Who Raped Teenage Suspect – Former Inspector
Naijawebinfo reported that in October, a viral video showed Sergeant Abraham, a fellow officer, in a compromising situation with a 17-year-old girl at the South Ibie police station. The footage also captured Abraham hastily pulling up his trousers as Edith Uduma, a police inspector, confronted him. The teenage girl was lying on a chair during the incident.
Following an orderly room trial, Uduma and Abraham were both dismissed from the police force.
However, the Edo State Police Command alleged that Uduma and her husband, Inspector Ibrahim Mohammed, had conspired to extort ₦1 million from Abraham to cover up the incident. The police claimed that when Abraham offered only ₦45,000, the video was leaked online.
Uduma denied these allegations in an interview with Punch, stating that they were unfounded.
She narrated the events that unfolded, saying, “It’s clear that we need to bring this case into the open. I want the people making these allegations to explain how I was involved in extorting N1m from my colleague. I remember when we were making statements, no mention was made of this amount.”
Uduma stated that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) asked them to explain the incident and the victim to share her account. The DPO then instructed the matter to be dropped without further investigation.
Uduma claimed that she had given the video to three station officers and two boys who were present at the scene. She also stated that she had made an entry in the police log after the incident.
Uduma further explained that the DPO had instructed her to keep the video from leaking, but she had already given it to the station officer. The DPO then became upset when she saw the entry in the log, accusing Uduma of trying to cause trouble.
Uduma said, “I was called back to the station and told that the DPO wanted to see me. Upon my arrival, she accused me of deliberately trying to cause problems, claiming she was due for retirement soon. I refused to cover up the incident and asked Abraham to bring N1m in cash to the station, knowing he wouldn’t have that amount.”
