A massive fire ravaged a significant portion of the well-known Ebute Ero Market in Lagos State on Saturday, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

The inferno reportedly started in the early morning hours, with the affected section located near a police station and Carter Bridge on Lagos Island.

Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service Director, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the incident in a statement, indicating that the swift response of firefighters successfully contained the fire from spreading further.

Fortunately, there were no reported casualties, but an ongoing investigation is aimed at assessing the extensive damage and financial losses sustained.

This devastating incident comes just days after the Radio Nigeria facility on Plot No. 35, Ikoyi Road, Lagos, was ravaged by a fire, highlighting the need for swift action to prevent such disasters.

Following the most recent incident, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service launched an investigation into the cause of the fire and has since initiated emergency protocols to contain the spread of the fire.

Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service Director Margaret Adeseye released a statement on Thursday morning, stating that the agency had received an emergency call at approximately 5:30 PM. Firefighters from the Dolphin, Ebute Elefun, and Oba Onitolo Fire Stations rushed to the scene to combat the blaze, which had already engulfed the studio area of the building.

Efforts to fully extinguish the fire and assess the damage are ongoing.
