Seyi Tinubu’s Lagos Governorship Endorsement Sparks Reactions About Family Ties

‘Lagos Governorship Not A Gift, Birthright For Tinubu’s Family’ – Reactions Trail Seyi Tinubu’s Endorsement

Lagos PDP Condemns Attempts to Foist Tinubu’s Son as Governor

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vehemently rejected the endorsement of Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Tinubu, as the next Governor of Lagos State. The party views attempts to impose Seyi on the people of Lagos as a clear disregard for their democratic rights.

In a statement, the PDP spokesperson, Hakeem Amode, emphasized that Lagos will not accept an inherited governorship, insisting that the position is not a birthright of any family. Amode emphasized that the people of Lagos will resist any attempt to impose Seyi as the next governor, stating that the position is not a gift to be handed out.

Opposition to Tinubu Family’s Political Ambitions

Deji Adeyanju, a human rights activist, criticized the endorsement, describing it as absurd and an underestimation of the intelligence and capabilities of the people of Lagos. Adeyanju questioned whether Nigeria was operating under a monarchical system, where leadership was handed down from father to son, and urged politicians to take action.

Adeyanju argues that the absence of genuine elections in Lagos State allows for the selection of leadership, rather than the selection of the most qualified individuals. He emphasized that elections should be a means to choose the best candidate for the job, rather than a means to hand the position to a predetermined candidate.

Support for Seyi Tinubu’s Governorship Ambitions

Despite the opposition from the PDP and others, Seyi Tinubu has received endorsements from some groups, including the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders, the Middle Belt Youths, and Friends of Seyi Tinubu. They praise his philanthropic efforts, leadership skills, and dedication to societal advancement.

Ruling Lagos Not the Job for Boys

Meanwhile, Joe Igbokwe, a prominent APC member, condemned the endorsements, labeling them as a strategy to undermine President Tinubu. Igbokwe emphasized that ruling Lagos is not the job of boys, and that those pushing Seyi for governor are doing so to distract from the party’s problems.

Lagos Indigenous Youths Reject the Endorsement

The Coalition of Lagos Indigenous Youths, a youth group, has also rejected the endorsement of Seyi Tinubu. They argue that there is no vacancy for a non-indigene to occupy the Alausa Government House and that the people of Lagos have been denied the right to govern themselves since 1999.
