Rivers APC Elects New Chairman, Okocha, Ahead of 2027 Elections
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has elected a new chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, following a peaceful delegate congress held in Port Harcourt, the state capital. Okocha was elected unopposed, along with other executive members of the party, at the event spearheaded by Dr. Adoye Omalez, representing the party’s national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.
Vice Chairman of the party’s South-South region, Victor Giadom, praised the delegates for their orderly conduct during the congress, describing it as a reflection of the APC’s unity and cohesion in Rivers State. Giadom urged party members to rally behind the new executive to advance the party’s objectives.
In his inaugural address, Okocha emphasized that the APC aims to take control of the state government by 2027 and dispel the notion that the party lacks unity and cannot hold peaceful elections. He also commended President Bola Tinubu for his accomplishments, particularly the reinstatement of petroleum production at the Port Harcourt Refinery, and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to success in future elections in Rivers State.
Okocha expressed his gratitude to the delegates, stating that the peaceful nature of the election demonstrates that the APC can indeed conduct and win elections in the state. He assured that the party will work to replace the current state government with a more effective one in 2027.
The new chairman also touched on the party’s plan to return President Bola Tinubu to office and expressed confidence that the APC will win elections in Rivers State, beginning with Assembly, local government, and National Assembly elections, as well as the governorship election in 2027.
Notably, Okocha commended President Bola Tinubu for his efforts to revitalize the state’s economy, citing the restart of oil production at the Port Harcourt Refinery as a significant achievement. He emphasized that the party’s focus is on building a strong foundation for future success and thanked the Electoral Commission (INEC) for their role in presiding over the election.
Other elected positions at the state delegates congress included the Deputy Chairman, State Secretary, Publicity Secretary, State Auditor, State women leader, Youth leader, legal advisor, and Zonal leaders of the party in the three senatorial districts of the state.
