In Tarred by His Own Ambition, an Herbalist’s Tale Turns to Tragedy
Ismail Usman, a local herbalist, paid the price for his hubris on a fateful day in November 2024. In a quest for validation, he concocted a self-made “bulletproof” charm, only to have his hopes shattered by the harsh realities of his own hand.
A seemingly convincing demonstration of his charm’s efficacy led Usman to fortify himself with the same dubious creation. But the outcome was far from the expected outcome. Instead, he suffered severe injuries after accidentally shooting himself in the stomach with a homemade gun, leaving him on the brink of disaster.
The FCT Police Command took swift action following a distress call from a concerned resident, responding to the Byazhin Division to provide assistance. Due to the severity of his condition, Usman was transported to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital, where medical professionals are fighting to save his life.
) As the police continue to investigate, it is clear that Usman’s rash actions will come with a steep price. Adeh confirmed that he will face charges for unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide, in direct violation of Section 231 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.
Olatunji Disu, the Commissioner of Police in the FCT, has condemned the incident, cautioning against the dangers associated with illegal firearms and the devastating consequences that can unfold when they are mishandled. The outcome of this incident serves as a dire reminder of the importance of responsible behavior and the devastating consequences that can result from hasty, self-destructive decisions.
