El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club Suffers Armed Robbery En Route to Match
Naijawebinfo has learned that the team’s bus was ambushed by armed robbers at Rijiyar Malam village along the Jos-Bauchi road in Bauchi State, leaving several players and officials injured.
According to eyewitness accounts, the attack occurred at around 12:45 a.m. on Saturday while the team was traveling to a league match. The robbers stopped the two buses and a saloon car, firing shots to force everyone out.
The victims were then subjected to physical assault with machetes and sticks, with their valuables and phones stolen. Over 10 players and officials were injured in the ordeal.
The injured were taken to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital in Bauchi for treatment before the team continued on to Maiduguri. The incident was reported to the GRA Police Station in Bauchi.
Police spokesperson SP Ahmed Wakil confirmed the attack, stating that the Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Muhammad, has ordered a full-scale investigation and deployed tactical teams to track down the perpetrators.
Wakil also encouraged the victims to use the police’s “Rescue Me” app to recover their stolen phones. “We are doing everything possible to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Wakil said. “And for the players who were robbed, we urge them to use our Rescue Me app to track and recover their stolen phones.”
