Nigeria Police Foil Terrorist Attack, Thwart Kidnapping Plot

In a statement issued in Abuja, the Nigeria Police Force announced that its personnel in Borno recently thwarted a terrorist attack on the Jakana Divisional Police Headquarters. According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the attempted assault took place on November 28 at 1:00 AM.

However, the police operatives successfully defended against the assailants, resulting in several of the attackers sustaining gunshot wounds. One police officer was injured and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Separately, the Police Command in Sokoto State, in collaboration with other security agencies, conducted operations on November 25 to target identified hotspots and bandit camps. This operation led to the recovery of multiple AK47 rifles and several magazines containing live ammunition.

The occupants of the camp fled upon realizing the presence of the operatives, but efforts are ongoing to capture the escaping members.

In another incident, operatives from the Police Command in Delta engaged suspected kidnappers in a gunfight on November 28. The police successfully overpowered the suspects, forcing them to retreat into a nearby forest with significant bullet injuries.

The operatives had been pursuing the suspects following an attempted kidnapping incident in Asaba. A search of the suspects’ vehicle resulted in the seizure of three AK-47 rifles, two pump-action shotguns, and one AK-47 magazine, as well as eight rounds of live AR ammunition and 21 live cartridges.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the courageous operatives for their dedication, commitment, and bravery in confronting danger, which facilitated these recoveries.

The Inspector-General urged police officers to maintain their courage and continue to thwart the schemes and activities of individuals with criminal intent in the nation.
