Early on the morning of December 1, 2024, Nigerian troops launched a joint operation in Zamfara State, known as Operation Fansam Yamma, in response to a distress call from local residents and vigilantes in the village of Yar Galadima, located in the Maru Local Government Area.
The troops, deployed from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Hanutara, moved swiftly to the scene to counter an active terrorist attack on the village. As they approached, they encountered the terrorists at two separate ambush sites and successfully neutralized multiple terrorists, with some fleeing the area.
To further bolster their efforts, the Air Component of Operation Fansam Yamma provided close air support, targeting the retreating terrorists and inflicting significant losses on the assailants. The precision airstrikes significantly reduced the number of terrorists and brought the operation to a successful conclusion.
The operation signifies the unwavering commitment of the Joint Task Force to eliminating terrorist threats not only in Zamfara State, but also in the wider North West region and Niger State. The operation demonstrates the force’s dedication to protecting citizens’ lives and property, while promoting peace and stability in the region.
