A massive fire ripped through Moniya Market in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, leaving a trail of destruction and heartbreak in its wake. The inferno, which began around 12:30 am, is believed to have been sparked by an electrical surge.

The fire spread rapidly, prompting an urgent response from the fire service to contain the blaze and minimize further damage. Several shops were engulfed in flames, resulting in a huge loss of valuable goods and a significant amount of cash.

Eyewitnesses recounted the terrifying scene, as the fire spread swiftly and called for an immediate response to prevent further devastation. The arrival of the fire service was credited with preventing even greater destruction.

“I was alerted to the fire by a security guard, and I rushed to the market as soon as I could. The loss is immense – we’ve lost multimillion-naira worth of goods,” said Kolawole Balogun, the Babaloja of Moniya Garage, with a tinge of sorrow in his voice.

Unfortunately, the devastating fire also claimed financial losses, as many shop owners had stored their earnings overnight, and millions of naira in cash were destroyed. This added to the immense destruction and heartache for the affected traders.
