Lagos State Government Clarifies Misinformation on Sachet Water Producers

The Lagos State Government has been forced to issue a statement to clear up the misconception surrounding a viral video showing unidentified individuals bursting sachet water packs on a van. The video sparked a heated debate on social media, with some accusing the state government of being responsible for the action.

Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resource, Tokunbo Wahab, issued a statement clarifying that the individuals involved were not affiliated with any Lagos State government agency or the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources.

NAFDAC responded to the accusation, lamenting that the video circulating online was not representative of their agency and its operating standards, stating that the bursting of water was unprofessional and against their guidelines.

Tokunbo later clarified the situation on social media, refuting claims that he had accused NAFDAC of wrongdoing. He emphasized that the initial statement did not accuse NAFDAC of any wrongdoing and that he had actually commended their efforts in safeguarding public health and safety.

He went on to assure that the Lagos State government was not planning to ban the production or sale of sachet water, dispelling rumors and misinformation. The goal, according to the government, remains to ensure clear communication and protect public interest effectively, encouraging citizens to focus on verified facts and avoid spreading inaccuracies.
