AUTHORITIES DENY TIES WITH ALLEGED SPLINTER GROUP, TEAM NEW NIGERIA
A recent announcement from Team New Nigeria (TNN) has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, as the group claimed to be leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC) to form a new political party. The move has sparked concerns and denials from the ruling party, which has dismissed TNN’s claims of membership.
TNN’s departure from the APC was revealed as they officially inaugurated a new committee in Kano State, with their National President, Modibbo Farakwai, emphasizing their plans to build a new party committed to good governance and leadership free from corruption. Farakwai assured that the group’s supporters would rally behind a movement aimed at addressing pressing national issues like poverty, insecurity, and widespread devastation.
In response to TNN’s claims, APC’s Deputy National Organising Secretary, Nze Chidi Duru, expressed surprise and doubts about the group’s ties to the party. Duru questioned TNN’s membership and claimed that neither the group’s name nor its leader was familiar within party circles.
“We have internal mechanisms to address grievances before considering defection or forming another party,” Duru explained. “If these individuals were genuine members of the APC, they would know the proper steps to take to bring about change in leadership or resolve disputes.”
The APC has also downplayed the potential impact of TNN’s actions on the party’s future, particularly in relation to President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election prospects. Duru emphasized that the party remains confident and views political diversity as a healthy aspect of democracy, as long as activities align with legal frameworks.
The APC has reaffirmed its commitment to unity within the party and urged its members to adhere to the constitution and established processes for addressing issues. The party remains focused on its goals, dismissing TNN’s claims as a distraction.
The saga has sparked significant attention, leaving many wondering what impact the alleged splinter group might have on Nigeria’s political landscape. The story was first reported on Naijawebinfo.
