Federal Lawmaker Abducted by Suspected Bandits on Jos Highway

A former member of the House of Representatives representing Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency, Joseph Haruna Kigbu, was whisked away by suspected bandits on Monday afternoon while traveling to Jos. The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. between Nunku, Akwanga Local Government Area in Nasarawa State, and Gwantu, Sanga Local Government Area in Kaduna State.

During the attack, the kidnappers opened fire on the police escort assigned to Kigbu, who attempted to resist the abduction. The sound of gunfire sent a wave of panic through motorist in the area, as described by eyewitnesses.

Locals confirmed the incident, citing the area’s notorious history of criminal activities. The unfortunate event has heightened concerns over the region’s persistent security concerns, with many residents urging for a beefed-up security presence in the area.

Interestingly, a separate tragedy unfolded in Akankan, Ede, Osun State, when a raging fire engulfed the residence of Customs officer, Tijani Kabiru, attached to the Oyo/Osun Command. Unfortunately, Kabiru, his wife, and four of their children perished in the inferno that broke out early Monday morning, sending shockwaves and grief through the community.
