A fierce fire ripped through the historic Bayan Tasha Market in Damaturu, Yobe State, obliterating millions of naira worth of property. The early morning inferno left traders reeling amidst the ruins.
Much of the popular marketplace was reduced to ashes and rubble, with numerous stores, kiosks, and structures succumbing to the intense flames.
– Naijawebinfo has learned that the rapid spread of the fire exacted a heavy toll, leaving merchants to tally up their losses.
Staff from the Yobe State Fire Service responded promptly and effectively, preventing the destructive blaze from engulfing residential areas nearby.
“Thanks to our swift response time, we were able to contain the fire after being alerted in the early hours of December 3”, said Adamu Yaro, a senior official of the Fire Service.
In the wake of the damaging blaze, concerns are reviving over the abandoned, modern Damaturu Market which was built at great public expense.
Residents who spoke to Naijawebinfo expressed deep relief that traders are still coping with the makeshift and ramshackle conditions that could increase the risk of repeated disasters.
