Police Uncover Illegal Arms Factory in Akwa Ibom State
A major breakthrough was achieved by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, as operatives discovered a secret gun manufacturing facility operating in the state. The clandestine factory, responsible for producing various types of firearms, was being run by a father and his sons.
The discovery was made possible thanks to credible intelligence received by the police commissioner, Joseph O. Eribo. He provided an update on the matter during a press briefing at the Command’s headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo.
According to Eribo, swift action was taken by the police once the information was received, resulting in the arrest of one suspect, with others managing to flee the scene.
A significant haul of recovered items included seven newly manufactured single-barrel guns, five double-barrel guns, a special steel double-trigger pistol, a broken single-barrel gun, a trigger-handle walking stick knife, and several cut iron pipes used for constructing gun barrels.
Eribo attributed the success of the operation to the timely receipt of credible information, stating, “Following the receipt of reliable intelligence, we launched a raid on a suspected gun-making factory, where various firearms were being manufactured and sold to criminals.”
Unfortunately, two other suspects, Akpan Nse Emmanuel and his brothers, managed to escape, with his son, David Nse Emmanuel, being taken into custody.
Eribo assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects, reassuring the community of the command’s commitment to clamp down on illegal activities.
In another development, a suspected child trafficker, Promise Boniface, was apprehended for allegedly abducting five children from a single mother.
The children were safely rescued and reunited with their parents, thanks to the quick work of the police.
