Lagos State Reminds Residents that Hawking Livestock on Streets and Roadsides is Strictly Prohibited

The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its stance against hawking dogs and selling any livestock on the street and roadside, emphasizing that such activities are illegal and pose serious risks to public health and order.

In response to recent viral videos showing individuals hawking puppies in the Lekki area, Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, issued a statement warning that the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps would take swift action against violators.

According to Wahab, the sale of animals on the street and by the roadside is not only illegal but also poses a significant threat to public health. He pointed out that such activities disrupt the order of public spaces and highlight the dangers of unregulated animal trade.

“The indiscriminate display and sale of livestock by the roadside is not only a violation of environmental laws but also an affront to agricultural regulations. This type of activity endangers public health and causes disruptions to public order. The hawking of sickly puppies, for instance, is a clear example of the dangers posed by such practices,” Wahab emphasized.

The Commissioner noted that the enforcement of these regulations falls under the mandate of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) and the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI). He emphasized that the Lagos State Government remains committed to ensuring compliance with environmental, agricultural, and public health regulations throughout the state.
