Innovative Storytelling: Minister of FCT Calls on Filmmakers to Leverage Technology
Speaking at the launch of the 14th International Zuma Film Festival in Abuja, FCT Minister Mariya Mahmoud emphasized the importance of filmmakers embracing technology in their work.
This year’s festival theme, “Digital Renaissance: Embracing the Future!,” highlights the transformative potential of digital technology in revolutionizing filmmaking and storytelling, according to the festival organizers.
In her address, Minister Mahmoud encouraged government, private investors, and stakeholders to support the film industry, deeming it a vital economic and cultural imperative. Technology, she noted, is revolutionizing the way people engage with stories.
Reflecting on the evolution of film, Mahmoud observed that this medium has shifted from simply being entertainment to serving as a mirror of society, reflecting our collective experiences, struggles, and aspirations. She emphasized the role film plays in bridging cultures and capturing the essence of our stories.
The minister recognized that technology is transforming how people consume films, and in response, filmmakers must adapt to these innovations while retaining the authenticity that makes our stories unique.
Despite the industry’s challenges, the organizers of the Zuma Film Festival have created a vital platform for showcasing African cinematic talent, and Mahmoud applauded their efforts in promoting Nigerian and African culture to the world.
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Film Corporation, Ali Nuhu, called the festival a “beacon of African creativity” and commended the innovative spirit of the Zuma Film Festival in championing Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and the continent.
