Rivers Lawmaker Abiante’s Suspension Overruled by Court

Court Nullifies PDP Suspension Of Rivers Federal Lawmaker Abiante

Justice Reigns: Awaji-Inombek Abiante’s Suspension as PDP Lawmaker Struck Down

A Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has rendered a ruling that may have far-reaching implications for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The court has nullified the suspension of Awaji-Inombek Abiante, the federal lawmaker representing Andoni-Opobo/Nkoro federal constituency, from the party.

The saga began in May when a factional PDP Ward Caretaker Executive loyal to FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, announced Abiante’s suspension. The reason given was his alleged engagement in anti-party activities and promotion of factions within the party.

However, the faction, led by Dike Bara, failed to provide Abiante with a fair hearing before suspending him. Justice G.O. Ollor, who delivered the ruling in suit no: PHC/1391/CS/2024, deemed the action unconstitutional and illegal.

In her judgment, the judge stated that the suspension was unlawful and invalid because the factional Caretaker Committee lacked the necessary authority to take such an action against a National Assembly member.

Reacting to the ruling, Abiante expressed his satisfaction, affirming that the court’s decision had vindicated his stance. He maintained that the suspension was orchestrated by individuals with no legal standing within the PDP.

According to Abiante, the individuals behind the suspension are not even members of the PDP, their names not being registered with the party. He vowed that they will continue to fail in their attempts to derail the development and good governance championed by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The lawmaker urged his constituents to continue supporting Governor Fubara, assuring that he will continue to collaborate with the Governor to better the lives of the people.
