Dele Olawanle, the solicitor for Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, has refuted claims that the controversial clergyman is facing deportation from the UK.
A recent report by Naijawebinfo stated that an immigration tribunal had ruled that Tobi Adegboyega, 44, a cousin of Star Wars actor John Boyega, would be deported to Nigeria due to alleged financial misconduct linked to his church, SPAC Nation.
SPAC Nation had previously been shut down after failing to account for significant expenditures and facing accusations of lacking transparency.
In a press release dated December 4, 2024, Olawanle vehemently denied the claims, emphasizing that Adegboyega has lived in the UK for over 20 years without a single criminal record or conviction.
Olawanle clarified that while SPAC Nation had faced scrutiny from courts and the Charity Commission, the pastor was never found guilty of any wrongdoing.
The lawyer also expressed dismay at the rumor-mongering, saying that it was a clear example of sensationalism and idiocy. He noted that Adegboyega had overcome numerous challenges and continued to thrive, but was instead being targeted by those spreading false information.
Olawanle questioned the societal tendency to bring down individuals who stand out, stating, “I find it puzzling that people derive joy from seeing others fall, including those in positions of authority. It’s a sign of a bigger problem in our society.”
Olawanle reiterated that the deportation claims were baseless and false, and would not be commenting further on the matter.
