Abia State Governor Condemns PDP’s Establishment of Shadow Government
In a stern warning, Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has strongly condemned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for setting up a shadow government in the state, describing it as a “treasonous act”. He has vowed to take swift and legal action against the opposition party, as dictated by the law.
During a crucial meeting with labour union leaders in the state, the governor expressed his deep concerns about this development. He labeled the initiative as baseless and a clear indication of a lack of understanding of the political framework in Nigeria.
Recent reports revealed that the PDP had appointed a speaker and shadow commissioners, claiming that the initiative was meant to hold the current administration accountable. However, the governor vehemently disagreed, stating that the concept of a shadow government is not recognized in the country’s presidential democracy.
Governor Otti emphasized that ignorance is the root of the problem, and that the PDP’s actions are a refusal to be educated about the democratic system. He reminded them that shadow governments only exist in parliamentary democracies, not in a presidential system like Nigeria.
According to the governor, the PDP’s actions amount to setting up a government in exile, which is not recognized by law and, therefore, is considered treasonable. He has directed the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna, to take decisive action on the matter within the legal framework.
The governor’s message was clear: the PDP’s actions will not be tolerated, and the law will take its course in addressing the situation.
