PDP Asks APC to Prioritize Intra-Party Unity before Contesting 2026 Gubernatorial Election in Osun
In response to the increasing calls for ex-Governor Adegboyega Oyetola to throw his hat into the ring for the 2026 governorship election, the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State has thrown some advice at the opposition party, the All Progressives Congress.
According to Oladele Bamiji, Director of Media and Publicity of the PDP, it would be wise for APC to sort out their internal differences before attempting to vie for the governorship. In an interview with Punch, Bamiji said: “We welcome whoever APC decides to field, but first and foremost, we believe they should prioritize stabilizing their party by reducing conflicts within their ranks.”
The party hopes that APC will use the period leading up to the election to focus on consolidating their internal cohesion rather than just trying to rally a candidate. “The Osun electorate will not take kindly to the current lack of clarity and unity within the APC,” the party official warned. “Rather than trying to rally support behind a particular candidate, we urge APC to adopt a more collective and coordinated approach.”
It was previously reported that a group recently implored Oyetola to contest the 2026 election, citing a desire to save the APC from what they deemed potential leadership crises.
Oyetola made a significant impact when he was first elected as the APC governor in Osun in 2018. However, he suffered defeat at the hands of Adeleke, the candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party, in the 2022 election.
